Women Delegation from the Islamic Republic of Iran Meet with the Chairperson and Members of National Commission for Women (NCW) of India

At the head of a delegation, Dr. Karimi, Director General for International Department of the Vice-Presidency for Women and Family Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran visited National Commission for Women (NCW)in India and met and exchanged views with Dr. Rekha Sharma, Chairperson of the commission and 25 other members of the commission.

At this meeting Ms. Sharma, while explaining on the achievements of India in the area of women described the capacities of both Iran and India for collaboration appropriate and expressed hope that these meetings would pave the way for developing such cooperation.

Dr. Karimi referring to the combined media war which intends to display a wrong image of the status of women in Iran, presented a PowerPoint, highlighting the achievements gained with regards to women’s status in Iran in the form of statistical figures comparing the situation of women before and after the Islamic revolution in Iran.

While referring to the measures undertaken by the Vice-Presidency for Women and Family Affairs she reminded on the opportunities and areas of cooperation between Iran and India including working together within the framework of Women Empowerment Committee of the IORA Union, and also the role of women in fighting corruption, collaboration in fighting violence against women and also offering monitoring  solutions that would guarantee  the implementation of laws and joint  research efforts in the area of women.

She welcomed the members of the National Commission for Women to visit Iran and see from close the status of women in Iran and their achievements gained in reality in various areas.
