History

In 1992 the office of women’s affairs was established under the supervision of the Supreme Cultural Revolutionary Council. The first decree for the head of the office of the women’s affairs was granted to the late Ms. Shahla Habibi on November 1992 and she was appointed as the head of the office for women’s affairs.

The office began its activities with the aim of promoting and improving the status of women and helping develop the talents in order to develop the Islamic society.

In 1998 the office of the women’s affairs of the presidency was changed to the center for women’s participation and Dr. Zahra Shojaie was appointed as the president of the center and president’s advisor. Later, with the incumbency of the 9th government and the approach of emphasizing on the key role of women in family and based on the religious beliefs the name of the center was changed to the center for women and family affairs and in 2005 Dr. Nasrin Soltankhah was appointed as the advisor in women and family affairs and later after 6 months Dr. Zohreh Tabibzadeh - Nouri was appointed and took office until 2009.

Later, for a short period Ms. Zahra Sajjadi became the head of the center for women and family affairs.

During the 10th government Ms. Maryam Mojtahedzadeh became advisor for the women and family affairs and from November 2009 to 2013   she held this position when in 2013 the center for women and family affairs was promoted to the vice-presidency for women and family affairs and her appointment was up-leveled to vice-president for women and family affairs.

In the 11th government Shahindokht  Molaverdi  was appointed as the vice-president for women and family affairs and from 2012 to 2017 remained in office. During the 12th government Dr. Masoumeh Ebtekar was appointed as the vice-president for women and family affairs.

 With the tenure of the 13th government on September 2020, Dr. Seyyed Ebrahim Raisi appointed Dr. Ensieh Khazali as the vice-president for women and family affairs.
