The Vice President for Women and Family Affairs met with a group of active Iranian women residing in Iraq on 22 February 2025. This meeting aimed to understand and address the challenges and needs of Iranian women living in Iraq, providing an excellent opportunity for exchanging views and practical solutions. At this meeting, the guests expressed their opinions and concerns, highlighting their economic, social, legal, and cultural challenges.
Mrs. Behrouz Azar emphasized that Iran belongs to all Iranians, regardless of where they live. She underscored the significance of women's role in the country's development and progress and stated, "The fact that you are Iranian means you are part of this country's potential, and your abilities should be utilized." She also added, "Borders are merely human-made, and shared values and beliefs bring people from all over the world closer together."
She further stressed that the government needs the cooperation and participation of both women and men to address the nation's issues and promised to try to resolve the problems of Iranian women residing in Iraq.
She hoped that the launch of the Shalamcheh-Basra railway and the increase in border capacities would contribute to the empowerment of Iranian women on both sides of the border. These projects could pave the way for fresh cultural and economic exchange opportunities between Iran and Iraq. Mrs. Behrouz Azar emphasized that leveraging the potential of Iranian women residing in Iraq for future economic opportunities in Iran and Iraq, as well as border markets between the two countries, would be prioritized.
