Zahra Pezeshkian Attends and Addresses the International Conference on "Protection of Children in the Digital Environment" in Baku

The International Conference on “Protection of Children in the Digital Environment: Modern Tools and International Cooperation” took place in Baku on December 23, 2025 to bring together high officials and international experts across the world to discuss the current situation, challenges, and modern approaches in protecting children from harmful information.

Mrs. Zahra Pezeshkian, the head of Iran’s delegation, attended the Conference and delivered a speech, at the official invitation of Mrs. Bahar Muradova, the head of the State Committee for Family, Women, and children Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan. Mrs. Fatemi, the Director General of the International Affairs, as a representative of the Vic presidency for Women and family affairs accompanied her at the Conference.  

Mrs. Pezeshkian delivered a speech at the opening ceremony, pointed out to the duality of challenges due to the rapid development of digital innovations and said that the children’s safety at social media is a Global challenge. She also reported on the Iran’s action in this field, including approval of related laws, creating AI-based content, parenting control development, and implementing media literacy programs. At the end, she emphasized the strengthening international cooperation and creating international mechanism to protect children’s digital right. 

On the sidelines of the conference, Mrs. Pezeshkian met with Mrs. Bahar Muradova. While pointing out the old and friendly ties of the two countries, both sides emphasized the development of the bilateral cooperation, especially in the field of women and family affairs.

Moreover, the Director General of the International Affairs of the Vice Presidency for Women and Family Affairs pointed out the current opportunities to develop the cooperation in the field of women and family affairs.

It is worth mentioning that following the opening session, the plenary meetings, “Digital Threats and Cooperation” and “Threats in the Digital Environment: Solutions and Modern Approaches” were held with the presence of high officials, international organizations’ representatives, and experts. Panelists discussed opportunities and detrimental effects of the digital environment for children and solidity of the family from different perspectives and brought up different approaches to preserve the young generations’ identity, prevention of widening the inter-generation gaps, etc. At the end of the Conference, a statement to support cooperation and joint actions to secure the digital environment for children was released.

Once the conference finished, the guest visited the Heydar Aliov Cultural Center, where the collection of modern paintings on sea and aquatic protection were exhibited, and were welcomed by Mrs. Leyla Aliyeva, Vice-President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation. At the end of the visit, Mrs. Aliyeva met with Mrs. Pezeshkian and they discussed over joint cooperation fields.
