The preparatory Asia-Pacific regional meeting on the Seventieth Session of the Commission on the Status of Women
The preparatory Asia-Pacific regional meeting on the Seventieth Session of the Commission on the Status of Women was held on the 9th and 10th January 2026 at the headquarters of the organization's secretariat in Bangkok to review the progress of the Beijing Declaration and achieving sustainable development goals. Mrs. Fatemi, the Director General of International Affairs of the Vice Presidency for Women and Family Affairs, attended the meeting, which focused on tools and frameworks related to human rights and justice, and delivered a lecture.
On the first day, she participated in two panels, including "Understanding Women’s and Girl’s access to Justice in Asia and the Pacific" and "Dismantling Discrimination Laws, Policies, and Practices," and explained the foundational views of the Islamic Republic of Iran and emphasized the necessity of reinterpreting the concept of justice. Referring to the successes of Iranian women in past decades, she pointed to their significant increase in participation at high levels of governance and decision-making in the 14th government. She stated that "With the support of protective laws, Iranian Muslim women have chosen a new path based on national and religious culture, preserving the family institution and their effective presence in parts of the society."
On the sidelines of this meeting, Mrs. Fatemi met with Mrs. Cai Cai, the chair of the conference, and also Mrs. Pornnipa Masileerungsie, the Deputy Director-General of Department of Women's Affairs and Family Development of Ministry of Social Development and Human Security of Thailand .
