The Vice President for Women and Family Affairs of IRI met with the Swiss Ambassador Resident in Iran.

Mrs. Zahra Behrouz Azar reported on the Islamic Republic of Iran’s achievements, policies, and approaches toward women and family affairs, as well as initiatives to support Iranian women, during this meeting. She referred to the detrimental effects of the coercive measures and the War on women and children, including depriving women of many opportunities to fully realize their potential in the field of economy to introduce their products in international arenas, and a lack of access to food and medicine, which have hurt women and children extensively. In the recent war, women and children were among the most vulnerable people, showing the deep violence against women and the violation of Humanitarian law.

Complaining about the improper portrayal of Iranian women in international media, she said that “Iranian women are actively participating in different fields, including medicine, education, knowledge-based companies, aerospace industries, and cutting-edge technologies, but the realities are not represented accurately, which is another form of indirect violence against Iranian women.”

She reiterated that Iran is willing to share its experiences and achievements with other countries, and also expects other countries, such as Switzerland, to play a role in the fair representation of the women’s situation in Iran.

Mr. Olivier Bangerter, the newly appointed Swiss Ambassador to Iran, reflecting on his observations of Iranian women, expressed his admiration for the significant and impactful presence of highly educated women. He also stressed that continued dialogue and collaboration to get a better and more comprehensive understanding of the realities of women’s situation in Iran is necessary.
